Many of our Festival events are inspired by our unique environment, one that is recognised across the world for its landscapes, wildlife and culture. The dramatic and inspiring North Devon coast is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and sits next to the woodlands, clear streams and high moorlands of Exmoor National Park. Both these areas and North Devon as a whole are included in the UK's first UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The Festival aims to develop new ways of bringing people and the environment together to make it a true celebration of culture, landscape and life.
The unique North Devon landscape forms a spectacular backdrop to many of the Festival events, but we felt it should be much more than this and committed to developing the Natural Environment strand of events. Now in its 7th year, this strand includes many walks, tours and lectures from our diverse partners. Click here to see the full list of events available this June.
Protecting the environment is a priority shared by our sponsors: Stagecoach DEVON.
Greener products
We make great efforts to ensure our promotional material is as environmentally friendly as possible. Our balloons and stickers are biodegradable and the brochure is printed on paper from renewable sources. We encourage Festival visitors to pass the brochure on or recycle it when they are finished with it.
An enlarged pdf version of the brochure will be available on the home page of this site from April 2010- please view on-line to save unnecessary printing.
Greener travel
To protect our beautiful environment, where possible please consider walking, cycling, using public transport and car-sharing.

The Devon Countrymile project
![]() |
Devon County Council, Devon and Cornwall Police, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service and the Devon and Cornwall Safety Camera Partnership are working in partnership on the Devon Countrymile project to improve rural road safety, specifically in the area between Exeter and Barnstaple, bordered by the A361, the A377 and the A396. The Devon Countrymile project is supported by the Department for Transport. These six safety tips highlight the main causes of collisions on the A361 over the past five years.
