31 October - Sinfonia Classica receive national recognition

You may remember that back in February 2007 Sinfonia Classica recorded their debut album entitled Haydn - Symphonies & Divertimenti, directed by Gernot Süssmuth and released on Landor Records. Since then the album has featured as the Editors Choice, Recording of the Month in the notable Gramophone magazine, and received a rave review in both The Times and on MusicOMH.com.

The orchestra continues to perform concerts at the Queen’s Theatre with an ever growing list of distinguished soloists, to include this season: David Pyatt and Tasmin Little. For further details about the 08/09 concert season visit the diary pages.

Press quotes:
‘Apparently this was recorded on a freezing February day. One wouldn’t guess it from performances that boast playing as warm in tone as they are serious in approach. Sinfonia Classica may be a relatively new outfit, but they have cleverly partnered with the deeply experienced Süssmuth for a Haydn album to savour.’ - Gramophone

‘this new orchestra, drawn from former European Union Chamber Orchestra members, display a tight, light sound that serves most of this Haydn programme well...Strings are incisive, sometimes slashing like scythes, and woodwinds very clean.’ - The Times

‘The debut album from Sinfonia Classica is top-drawer stuff from an orchestra whose players apparently consist of instrumentalists "hand-picked from all over Europe.’ - Stephen Crowe, MusicOHM.com
